FAQ - General

Q: What is NS:Q3?
A: See the About Page of this website.

Q: What is different about NS-CO from other FPS realism games?
A: NS-CO places a strong emphasis on realism and game-play depth. NS-CO does not look or 'feel' like other Q3A mods, it has unique engine, physics, model, and mapping code.

Q: What are the opposing teams?
A: SEALs and Tangos

Q: Will there be Female models?
A: No. SEALs dont accept women in their ranks and female tango models are not currently planned.

Q: Are there cheat protections in spectator mode?
A: Yes. Ghosts won't be able to talk to alive team-mates but to other ghosts. For later betas we have planned some small arcade games to keep dead players busy.

Q: What's the word on friendly-fire?
A: Friendly-fire is a sever side variable, on by default (you can injure your team-mates).

Q: Are there camouflage skins/uniforms I can pick and choose?
A: There are different camouflage uniforms but they are auto-selected and determined by map played.

FAQ - Installation & Setup

Q: What do I need to play NS-CO?
A: The retail version of Quake III Arena updated with the v1.32 "point release" patch and a system that runs Quake III Arena adequately (see other requirements below).

Q: What systems can run NS-CO?
A: Any system that can run Quake III Arena v1.32; systems known to run NS-CO include Windows 9x/Me/NT/2k/XP, Apple Mac OS 8.x/OS X, QNX, and Linux.

Q: What are the minimum system requirements for NS-CO?
A: Generally the minimum system requirements to run Quake III Arena seem about right, but, NS-CO has a higher RAM minimum requirement of 128MB. (note: some players have managed on 96Mb with extensive tweaking).

Q: How large is the NS-CO file distribution?
A: 300Mb for a full installation smaller upgrades from previous versions are available.

Q: What Quake III Point release does NS-CO require?
A: The most up to date point release, 1.32

Q: What is the best graphics card for NS-CO?
A: Any graphics card that offers adequite performance with Q3A is fine, NVIDIA cards do seem to offer the most performance for the money though this changes constantly. ATi Radeon based cards also turn superlative performance. Older Voodoo 5 and especially Voodoo 3 cards do not perform as well with Q3A, but with some tweaking and 3rd parter drivers can give you a very satisfying game.

Q: I get a "User Interface is version 6, expected 3" when I try to run NS-CO; what's wrong?
A: You need to install or reinstall the 1.32 Point Release.

Q: I have a problem running NS-CO not answered here, what do I do?
A: Go to the "Navy SEALs: Training Grounds" it's the Official NS-CO Help Forum, most issues and problems already have been asked and are answered there, anything else -- just ask!
